New images were supposedly leaked by a source close to an Apple beta tester over the weekend of the much anticipated iPhone 6, and the buzz is all about what appears to be the inclusion of Liquidmetal – a scratch proof alloy casing. Stronger than titanium but still moldable, Liquidmetal would give the new iPhone 6 a sleek and tech-tough finish. The pictures also appear to show recessed buttons along the side of the iPhone 6 which would give users better volume control and make it less likely they would accidently change volume levels.
Even though the iPhone 6 isn’t set to launch until September 9th, there is a whole list of other anticipated updates and changes. There is enthusiasm over the use of sapphire crystal glass screen fronts which are supposedly extremely scratch resistant, but many reports cast doubt on whether or not these will actually be available at the launch as the standard screen.
Some who have examined the leaked photos carefully do not see a glaring reason as to why they would be fakes, but the omission of the Health app on the picture on the box raises some suspicions, especially given the fact that Apple has the leading app market over Android with Healthkit and it would give them an advertising edge.
Other anticipated features include an improved Touch ID fingerprint sensor and possibly an A8 processor. It seems, however, that the hype over the iPhone 6 is all about scratch resistance – from the Liquidmetal casing to the sapphire glass fronts. Apple has yet to confirm this, or any of the other hundreds of rumors currently circulating online.
