Read this articleNew iPhone to Have Sapphire Screen?
New images have surfaced on the Baidu social network in China and then picked up by MyDrivers a Chinese website. They are supposedly of the next generation mobile handset by Apple, the iPhone 6.
These images show a screen size of 4.7 inches, which is significantly different from the latest iPhone 5S. The photos were allegedly taken from the floor of the factory and do look very similar if not nearly exactly like the other images leaked online.
The display shows a thin bezel running along the sides with cutouts for the Apple home button, the trademark round button in the center. It is interesting to note that just the 4.7-inch version is shown in these latest images leaked on Baidu. The omission of the iPhone 6 5.5-inch screen version might give merit to the recent reports that the Cupertino, California tech giant might delay the launch of the larger screen handset.
GT Advanced once said about a year ago that sapphire could make screens on a smartphone nearly indestructible. Apple responded that if a large vendor were able to use sapphire to scale, the price would be inexpensive enough to integrate it into a major new generation product such as the iPhone 6.
A contract worth $578 million that GT has with Apple should be more than enough to make that happen.
Apple is creating a components facility in Arizona to make the sapphire screens and insiders said that with the number of furnaces purchased as many as 116 million sapphire screens 5 inches in size could be output annually.
However, at this time there is no hard evidence showing that the sapphire component being produced is even for the iPhone 6 screen.
