Seattle area photographer Thomas Hurst has come up with a revolutionary new iPhone case that enables users to take photos inconspicuously, holding the phone in a manner as if they were texting. Hurst acknowledges that the present trend in photo-taking is the “selfie”, however he believes that there are also many people who would simply like to take “fly on the wall” photographs, without announcing that they are about to take a picture. The rationale behind the new COVR Photo iPhone case is that the subjects being photographed will be much more natural if they do not know that a photo is about to be taken.
Hurst has won multiple awards for photography and is a former photographer for the Seattle Times. He invented the new product for his wife who was diagnosed with late stage cancer and wanted to take photos of their family enjoying life’s natural moments, free from the posing that their children would do when they knew that a picture was being snapped.
When a local Seattle news reporter asked Hurst if he thought that people would use his invention to take candid photos of unsuspecting strangers he answered, “The truth is, I think with all the technology that’s out there now, it’s not about the technology. It’s about the human heart and spirit and if people choose to want to be like that, they’re going to.” However he is hopeful that the majority of people will opt to use the product to better document their family life.
The new COVR Photo cases for iPhone 5 and 5s are available now for pre-order over at the COVR website for a reasonable $55.
