It’s common knowledge that the world can’t get enough of Leonardo DiCaprio and will go see pretty much any movie that he is in. However a strange new rumor in Hollywood has him potentially taking a role in the upcoming film about Steve Jobs and his rise to dominance in the home computing market.
It has been suggested that the director of “The Beach”, Danny Boyle, is eager to reunite with DiCaprio for his latest project. Boyle was given the reigns of the movie when original director David Fincher was bounced for demanding too much money and too much control.
Fincher was asking for a $10 million advance in fees as well as sole control over negotiations with the studio, not to mention ownership of the movie’s marketing. Once the “Fight Club” director was shown the door it ended hopes of reuniting the dream team that orchestrated the Facebook blockbuster “The Social Network”, as the new Jobs bio has Scott Rudin producing, and was written by Aaron Sorkin.
Sorkin adapted the screenplay from the authorized biography released in 2011 by Walter Isaacson, which Sony had purchased the rights to immediately after Jobs’ passing later that year. Isaacson’s “Steve Jobs” was a best selling book and was considered a very fair account of Jobs’ life and the tumultuous history of Apple.
It is still unclear at this stage which Hollywood heart-throb will sign on to the film, as it has also been reported that Christian Bale has been approached for a lead role. Lost in all of this drama is the fact that there was already a movie about the life of Steve Jobs and the history of Apple called “Jobs”, and it was released eight months ago. However this film starred fresh-faced prankster Ashton Kutcher and was a huge bomb at the box office earning a meager $6.7 million in its first weekend, so apparently Hollywood elites feel that it is time to reboot the “Steve Jobs Bio Franchise”.
