Microsoft Office Apps Offer More for iPhone and iPad

While developers have been busy updating apps to work with iOS 8, Microsoft has also been taking steps to offer more services to iPhone and iPad users. On November 6th, Microsoft released updated and more accessible versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps through the App Store.

Before this release, users who wanted to create new documents or edit existing ones would have to invest in a subscription to Office 365. Data could be viewed in documents, users could cut and paste certain elements, and items could be shared or presented – but they really could not be fully created and heavily edited.

As iPhone and iPad users clamored for more flexibility and options with Office apps, Microsoft apparently decided to make some compromises. The Office apps are free and now offer more – but not all – of the functions, such as editing, and they are available without a subscription. The iPhone interface will be different than that of the iPad when it comes to Office features in attempts to make Office functions accessible for smartphone users. The new Reflow Word view makes it so the page adjusts to fit the phone screen. Even if you aren’t using the latest iPad or holding an iPhone 6, you can still use these Office apps if you are running iOS 7 or later on your device.
