Read this articleHow to Use Touch ID
A security feature that is the hallmark of recent Apple, Inc. devices, Touch ID is now standard on technology such as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The Touch ID feature gives you an added security measure for privacy on your device and also allows you to use Apple Pay at participating retailers or for online purchases with your iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 3. Even though these devices all come standard with Touch ID, you still need to make sure that you enable it on your device before using it – and some users prefer to disable it when at home. To control your Touch ID settings:
- Tap the Settings icon on your device.
- Tap the setting for Touch ID & Passcode.
- Tap Add a Fingerprint. A screen will then prompt you to place your finger on the Home button as it reads and records your unique print.
- Tap the Continue link.
- Tap the Home button.
Once your fingerprint has been registered you will see a screen indicating that your Touch ID has been successfully accepted. You will now need to enter a passcode as an alternative security measure.
- Tap Continue.
- Enter a 4-digit passcode.
- Re-enter the passcode to confirm it.
Now you may choose which functions you want protected by your Touch ID fingerprint. At the top of the Touch ID & Passcode screen you can select from any or all of the following:
- iPhone Unlock
- Apple Pay
- iTunes and App Store
The fingerprint you entered will be shown as Finger 1 in the Fingerprints list, and you can add other fingerprints such as a thumb or finger from the opposite hand, or from another person if this is a shared device. Simply repeat the steps above to add other fingerprints to your device.
If you wish to disable Touch ID, for example when you are spending the weekend at home and don’t want to worry about the extra step, you can do so by following these steps:
- Go to the Touch ID & Passcodes screen and turn Off Touch ID for the functions you specify.
- Scroll to Turn Passcode Off, where you will need to enter your passcode.
Just don’t forget to turn these steps back on before heading out of the house again – they really are the safest measures you can take to protect your personal information on your device.
