Read this articleHow to Prevent In-App Purchases on Your iPad
There are thousands and thousands of “free” apps for your iPad, but those in-app purchases you didn’t even intend to make can really add up and impact your wallet. Too many parents have also paid the literal price when their children downloaded these “free” apps and then made countless in-app purchases for upgrades and extras. The best way to prevent accidental or unintentional in-app purchases is to change the settings on your device.
How to Turn Off In-App Purchases
- Go to the Home screen on your iPad.
- Got to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Go to Restrictions (usually located near the bottom of the page).
- Tap Enable Restrictions.
- Create a password when prompted.
- Move the green switch to OFF for In-App Purchases.
As of November 19th, you might also notice that you won’t be clicking on “Free” in the App Store anymore. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t any more free apps. It just means that after Apple was sued by many upset parents (and others) over the summer for labeling apps as “free” and then promoting in-app purchases, the FTC strongly encouraged a new approach. Now those free apps in the App Store will be available by tapping on “Get” – a more action-oriented word that hopefully doesn’t mislead busy parents about how much that new game will really cost.
At the end of the day, however, the best safeguard is to still adjust your settings to prevent in-app purchases on your iPad.
