Read this articleHow to Connect Your iPod to Your Home Stereo
You’ve created some amazing playlists on your iPod, so now you want to play your music throughout the house. Sure, your home computer would work for playing music, but it doesn’t have nearly the bass that your stereo subwoofer provides. In just a few easy steps you can connect your iPod to your home stereo so that you – and your friends – can enjoy your music.
- Make sure you have a 3.5mm auxiliary (aux) cable. You can pick these up inexpensively at many general or electronic stores.
- Plug one end of the aux cable into the headphone jack on your iPod and the other end of the cable into the port on your stereo receiver. This will usually be labeled as Aux, Auxiliary, or Aux In.
- Locate and press the Aux button on your stereo receiver (often near the power button).
- Turn on your iPod and play your music as you would if you were listening to it through your headphones.
- Adjust the volume level on your stereo receiver, but sometimes it is necessary to adjust the volume on the iPod as well.
If your stereo only has RCA inputs instead of Aux inputs you can purchase inexpensive RCA adapter plugs to work with your 3.5mm aux cable. Just match the colored RCA ports on your receiver to the colors on the plugs to connect.
Newer home stereos often come with AV receivers that work with the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) so that you can pair your iPod with your stereo via Bluetooth technology for wireless connectivity. No matter which way you decide to connect your iPod to your home stereo, you’ll be able to share your tunes with just a few simple steps.
