Apple’s Blunder – U2 Uninvited

When Apple hosted its latest major product launch on September 9th it perhaps thought it would woo fans with its free offer of the latest U2 album, Songs of Innocence. However, despite the fact that more than 33 million users have downloaded the free music, there has been an outcry of frustration among device owners who didn’t want the U2 music taking up space, especially uninvited.

According to rampant rumors, Apple paid upwards of $100 million to offer for free, in the iTunes library and through the Beats Music service, the U2 album. It also was automatically added to users’ accounts – which is when many non-U2 fans decided to make their voices heard. Some just don’t like U2’s music, others don’t want to give up the storage space on their devices, and others just don’t like Big Business making decisions for them on their personal devices.

Apple responded by putting together a special page devoted to guiding users through how to remove the U2 album from their devices. The steps are quite simple – it is one step, actually, and Apple wants users to understand that after October 13th the album will no longer be available for free and even users who remove the album now will have to pay for it later if they change their minds.

U2 doesn’t seem to be taking all of the backlash personally, and manager Guy Oseary says: ”It’s a gift from Apple. If someone doesn’t like the gift, they should delete it.”

The Best U2 Concert of All Time

Now before U2 fans pelt us with nasty emails and comments, allow us to clarify what “best of all time” means in this situation. We are referring to, “the coolest concert captured on thousands of cameras and made into one full length video”. Please allow us to explain. There is a large open-air concert venue close to the town of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada which occasionally attracts big name acts like The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and Milli Vanilli, (Young MC opened that year).

On July 30th, 2011 Ireland’s favorite sons played the last concert of their massive U2 360° tour there with special guests Arcade Fire, and many music fans on the East Coast of Canada still consider it to be one of the greatest shows to ever hit The Maritimes. Since we’re living in a digital age, thousands of fans recorded portions of the show with their smartphones and posted the footage online. What happened next will shock you! (Shout-outs to all those stupid Facebook viral videos.)

One determined U2 fan, who was clearly a master video editor, compiled the video footage from hundreds of cell phones and edited together the full U2 concert in Moncton from the vantage point of the fans. The final product utilizes clips from everywhere from the front row of the VIP section, to the last row of the grandstands. The video’s creator used a fantastic single audio track throughout the video, so the sound quality is excellent. Quite frankly, this person deserves an award for the finished product – it’s amazing.

So here you go….the greatest ever recorded U2 concert of all time. Enjoy!
