Where Can I Use Apple Pay?
If you are planning a vacation to Orlando, Florida any time soon, you can take advantage of Apple Pay at the Walt Disney World resort. It’s related retail locations also support the digital payment option, but you will have to wait until later in 2015 before Apple Pay reaches the Disney franchise in California. The move by Disney to incorporate mobile payments is part of a larger, overall push to go digital. With the MyMagic+ program, visitors to Disney resorts use wearable MagicBands and cards to do everything from enter their hotel room, access theme parks, or purchase food and merchandise at the resort.
Apple Pay is now reportedly also supported by enough banking systems to support almost 90% of all U.S. credit card transactions. Several major banking institutions including SunTrust, Barclaycard, USAA, Commerce Bank, Associated Bank, and UW Credit Union are on board with Apple Pay.
Apple is also gaining a footing on the markets that people use most – grocery stores and gas stations. Grocery chains Winn-Dixie and Albertsons have adopted the technology and Chevron Corporation recently announced it will serve Apple Pay users at the pumps in 2015.
As more industries and companies get on board the Apple Pay bandwagon, only time will tell if enough consumers will move to become iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users – currently the only devices with the necessary Apple Pay NFC technology for Apple’s digital wallets.
