Read this articleApple Exec Tim Cook Gets Personal
On September 11th, Apple executive Tim Cook spoke on the Charlie Rose show about the recent launch of the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Apple Watch, and Apple Pay. The interview takes the ideas presented at the launch event and goes several steps further, in what Tim Cook describes as “the next chapter” for the direction of Apple.
The underlying theme of the interview is Cook’s perception of what Apple is all about – that Apple aims to be the best, but not the first. He describes how many Apple devices, from the iPod to the iPhone, were not necessarily the first in their categories, but the first modern devices. This is how Cook also describes the Apple Watch. He says it is the “most personal device we [Apple] have ever created” and that the company explored many options for several years regarding wearable technology, which he now refers to as a profound device that rises to a new level.
When it comes to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Tim Cook focuses on two aspects. The screen “is to die for” and the “technology is screaming fast.” His somewhat quiet demeanor seems to liven when he talks about the seamless feel of the design, and says that the iPhone 6 is not just on track as a continuum of other iPhones, but the biggest advancement in iPhone technology that is leapfrogging ahead of previous versions.
Besides the tech aspects of the interview, Charlie Rose and Tim Cook discuss more personal aspects of life at Apple, including, Cook’s outlook on what it takes to be a CEO, his relationship with Steve Jobs, and more. Perhaps one of the most poignant moments is when Cook tells Charlie Rose that Steve Jobs continues to inspire at Apple, with his office still existing on the 4th floor and his name across the door. That is quite a legacy for Tim Cook to continue.
