Read this articleNew Report States That iPhones Extract Personal Data
A shocking presentation was made at the Hackers on Planet Earth conference last week by researcher Jonathan Zdziarski, who demonstrated how Apple can extract a large amount of personal data from iPhones. The data could include contact lists and information, texts, emails, and even photos.
Zdziarski went on to say that iPhone users are totally unaware that these programs run in the background of their devices, and there is absolutely no way to turn them off. When made aware of the discovery, Apple claimed that the software mines for personal data to help engineers and create better products in the future.
Perhaps the most shocking revelation of the presentation was that Apple could also mine for personal data on any of the trusted computers that iPhones had been paired with. The only way for users to disconnect entirely from a trusted computer is to wipe their phones completely.
This discovery of course led to many computing experts claiming that Apple had intentionally built a backdoor into their devices to assist the United States National Security Agency, and help facilitate their spying on U.S. citizens. Apple countered with, “A user must have unlocked their device and agreed to trust another computer before that computer is able to access this limited diagnostic data.”
After speaking directly with Apple about the breach in privacy, Zdziarski said that he expected that they would be making changes to the data mining software in the future.
