Not since the Hartford Whalers of the NHL were stolen and shipped to Carolina has a theft in Connecticut gathered this much national attention. Last week WWE wrestling diva “Emma” was charged with sixth-degree larceny after being caught trying to steal an iPad cover from a local Walmart during the WWE’s live show at the Hartford XL Center.
“Diva Emma”, whose real name is Tenille Dashwood, claimed in court that she was using a self-checkout kiosk when she forgot to ring the iPad
case through. She had scanned and paid for the other items in her bag but not the iHome Slim Swivel iPad mini case, which is valued at $21.14 USD.
The WWE acted swiftly in the matter releasing a statement on their website stating that they had released Dashwood, and wished her luck in her future endeavors. Then in a stunning twist they re-instated her a few hours later releasing a new statement that read, “Upon further evaluation, WWE has reinstated Tenille Dashwood (WWE Diva Emma) but will take appropriate punitive action for her violation of the law.” Insiders claim that the WWE did an about-face because they did not want to set a precedent that all shoplifters will be terminated.
Dashwood has been ordered to preform community service to repay her debt to society. It is unknown at this time if Diva Emma eventually purchased a new iPad case.
