Read this articleHow to Use the Find My iPhone App
In recent months the Find My iPhone app has been credited with everything from locating stolen devices to helping to save a woman stranded in a serious car accident. As a result, many people who own iPhones and iPads are excited to utilize this app as an extra security measure. Don’t let the name of this app fool you – it works on your iPad and iPod as well, and now comes with a new feature for iPhones, iPods and iPads using iOS 8.
Using Find My iPhone
The Find My iPhone app is available through your iCloud account, meaning you don’t have to take separate steps to install the app. To enable the app to work, simply access your iCloud account and scroll until you see the Find My iPhone app slider. Move this to slider to the ON position or slide until the green Go indicator appears (depending upon which iOS version you are running). It is also important that you allow the GPS tracking feature which will track your device for your use, not for others to track your movements.
New Find My iPhone App Feature
Until the release of iOS 8, the Find My iPhone app only worked as long as the battery in the device still had life. With iOS 8, however, a new feature on the app will provide an extra safeguard. It now includes the ability to send the last known GPS location to iCloud before the battery dies. To make sure you have this feature enabled:
- Open your Settings.
- Tap iCloud.
- Select Find My [Device].
- Turn ON the option for Send Last Location.
With this feature in iOS 8 enabled, whenever your device has a low battery it will automatically send the device’s current location to iCloud. Unfortunately, if you only have Wi-Fi connectivity and your device is out of range, this feature will not work as intended.
