It was reported last week by the Associated Press that Oklahoma farmer, Kevin Whitney, had his iPhone take an expected journey across the Pacific Ocean and back. The voyage that the iPhone made is quite remarkable and a few stops on the way to the Pokemon-obsessed country.
The smart phone’s trip started when Whitney was loading grain into a silo that holds 290,000 bushels – the phone slipped out of his shirt pocket and into the silo. Whitney remembers the event clearly, “I knew it was lost forever and there was no retrieving the thing.”
The iPhone then traveled on to another Oklahoma grain facility before cruising down the Mississippi river to a storage facility in Louisiana. After hanging out in Louisiana for a few days, (presumably to enjoy Mardi Gras), the iPhone was then sent on to its final destination of Hokkaido, Japan.
A worker at the Japanese feed mill found the phone and called Eric Slater of the Zen-Noh Grain Corporation,” I knew if that was my phone, I’d probably want it back. Frankly, I field about a phone a month.”
After eight months the iPhone was returned to Whitney in perfect condition, who was shocked that the Apple device had made it through the ordeal unscathed.
